FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - First Amendment Gallery is pleased to announce “Tight Around the Trigger,” a new solo exhibition by Florida-based artist BASK.

Ales Hostomsky AKA BASK returns to First Amendment Gallery with a new body of work exploring the tensions that propel our responses, accelerate our contempt, and ultimately bring out the worst in us. For “Tight Around the Trigger,” the veteran street artist uses his signature satirical imagery delivered in rugged textural pieces that bring to mind the universal triggers that hinder objective discourse. Pulling from pop culture references– like Bruce Banner’s alter ego, The Incredible Hulk– BASK’s work for “Tight Around the Trigger” is an irreverent yet thoughtful examination of how closing oneself off to new and opposing ideologies ostracizes ourselves from conversations of progress, further derailing self actualization.

BASK (the moniker of one, Ales Hostomsky) is a Czech-born American artist residing in Florida. Upon his family taking refuge in Florida from communist Czechoslovakia, BASK absorbed the pop culture of the 1980s and 90s, seeing similarities in the iconic communistic propaganda from his youth and the consumer advertising of his teens. Influenced by his disdain for indoctrination, BASK paints bold and confrontational works from raw materials to hold the mirror up to society to challenge, reflect, and maybe even laugh at the absurdity of adhering to the status quo.

First Amendment Gallery invites you to join us at 1000 Howard St. in San Francisco on Friday March  6th from 7:00pm to 10:00pm for the opening reception of “Tight Around the Trigger” by BASK. For further inquiries on the artist or available works, please contact info@1amsf.com.
